Minnesota GIS/LIS: Call for Commendation Award Nominations

Some news from our friends in Minnesota:

A Certificate of Commendation is the highest award given to any geospatial project in Minnesota. Awards will be made at the 2011 annual Mn GIS/LIS conference in St. Cloud.

The project must have:  yielded tangible benefits and exceptional results, had a significant impact outside the home organization, furthered at least one of the goals in the guiding principles for the award.
The value of the product must be documented quantitatively in numbers and qualitatively with testimonials from users. Details are provided at http://www.mngeo.state.mn.us/awards/gov_commendations/index.html

2012 ASPRS Annual Conference call for abstracts

It's hard to believe since many of us just attended the 2011 ASPRS Annual Conference in Milwaukee, but the call for abstracts for the 2012 conference is now out.  Abstracts for the meeting, to be held in Sacramento, CA, are due by August 1, 2011.  Visit the Conference Website for more information.

ASPRS-WGL membership distribution (as of May 2011)

Who are we? The Western Great Lakes Region of the American Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing is one of sixteen regions nationwide and consists of Minnesota, Wisconsin,  Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Indiana, and northern Illinois.  We currently have nearly 200 members spread throughout our region!

New site live, more changes coming

If you are reading this, you've already discovered that we recently unveiled a new Web site!  The new site is just one step in achieving our goal of improving communications with (and between) the nearly 200 members of the ASPRS Western Great Lakes region.

The new site takes on more of a "blog" feel where we will post news tidbits, upcoming events, and other information relevant to our members.  We are also working on an e-mail subscription service where anything posted to the blog is automatically "pushed" out to Region members.  Watch this blog for more information in the coming weeks!

Beyond the technology improvements, the officers of WGL are discussing new ways to reach out to members, such as more local events in each state (Indiana, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Upper Michigan, Wisconsin).  We recognize that travel is  becoming more difficult in today's economy, so we hope smaller events (versus "big" gatherings at a central place) makes it easier for you to be active in ASPRS.

Finally, as we move forward, we appreciate YOUR feedback on the new site as well as how we can best serve your professional needs!  Feel free to leave a comment below, or e-mail them to asprswgl@gmail.com or any of the officers.
